2D Hub — Mobile App Privacy Policy

Effective date: 17 October 2026

Who this policy covers

This policy describes the 2D Hub mobile application published by Product Hub IP Pty Ltd. The app reads barcodes with the phone’s camera, interprets the content it can understand, and stores scans you select in a database on that device. It is a content inspection tool. It is not an account service and it is not an ISO print-quality verifier.

Privacy questions about the mobile app can be sent to support@2dhub.co. App help is on the support page.

Information the app processes

When you use the scanner, the app processes:

  • Camera frames, so it can look for barcodes.
  • The text read from a symbol, the reported symbology, and the interpretation calculated on the device.
  • A local scan record, if you select a code. The record can include the time, the encoded value, the barcode type, a symbology identifier when the camera provides one, the GS1 interpretation, validation messages, a normalised GTIN when the rules produce one, application-identifier fields, and a local identifier created on the device.
  • A local flag that the introductory screen has been shown, stored separately from scan history.

The app does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos, or an account. It does not show advertising and it does not include an analytics or crash-reporting SDK.

Camera access

Camera permission is required to scan. The system prompt uses this reason: “2D Hub uses the camera to scan retail and GS1 barcodes, including GS1 DataBar.” You can refuse. If you refuse, the scanner tells you that camera access is needed and does not decode symbols.

On the current iOS scanner, frames are read in memory and passed to a decoder that is compiled into the app. The standard-camera path, used when that native scanner is unavailable, also decodes on the device. The app code does not write those frames into the photo library and does not include a feature that uploads images or video. Frames are discarded as the camera moves on, apart from the barcode text you choose to keep.

This description is based on the application code. It is not a network capture of a particular phone.

Scan history

Selecting a barcode saves that result in a SQLite database stored with the app. The home screen’s Scan history list reads that database. The app does not upload the database to a 2D Hub service, and there is no 2D Hub account that holds a copy.

Tap Delete beside one row to remove that scan. Tap Clear and confirm to remove every saved scan. A single delete does not ask for a second confirmation.

Removing the app deletes the app’s local storage, including saved scans, subject to the phone’s own behaviour. A device backup made by the operating system may still contain a copy. This app does not offer its own cloud backup and does not control whether the phone includes the local database in a system backup.

Copying and sharing

Copy and Share are actions you start. Copy places the interpreted text and the encoded text on the device clipboard. Share passes that text to the sharing panel, and then to an app you choose. After you share, the other app’s privacy practices apply to the copy it receives. 2D Hub does not receive a notice of where the text went.

Network use and third parties

The scanner’s own code does not send barcode values, camera frames, or history to a 2D Hub server. Product lookup is not performed. Opening the support or privacy pages from a future version of the app loads those public web pages in the browser.

The app is built with Expo and React Native, uses the platform camera, and includes the ZXing-C++ barcode decoder in the native scanner. Those components run as part of the app. The project does not add a separate analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting service, and it does not include an over-the-air update client.

Apple distributes the iOS app through the App Store and TestFlight under Apple’s own terms. That distribution is separate from scan data. The Android package name is reserved for the same application. This policy is written so it can cover that build as well. A public Android store listing is not described here.

Support email

If you email support@2dhub.co, you use your own mail app. The message is not sent by the scanner. Product Hub IP Pty Ltd uses the information you choose to include, such as a device model, system version, app version, a description of the problem, and an optional screenshot, to reply and to handle that request. Do not send confidential barcode contents or personal information unless they are needed.

Support correspondence is kept for as long as it is needed to handle the request and any follow-up. This policy does not promise a fixed deletion period. You can ask us to delete a support conversation by emailing the same address.

Security

Scan history stays inside the app sandbox on the device. Access depends on the phone’s own protections, such as a passcode and the operating system’s separation of apps. The app does not add an account password. No method of storage is free of risk if someone else can unlock the phone.

Your choices

  • Refuse or later withdraw camera permission in the phone’s settings.
  • Skip Copy and Share when you do not want text to leave the result screen.
  • Delete one saved scan, or clear all of them, in Scan history.
  • Email support@2dhub.co to ask about support correspondence you sent.

Because barcode results are not uploaded to a 2D Hub account, we cannot remotely view or delete the history on your phone.

Privacy rights

Product Hub IP Pty Ltd is an Australian company. If privacy law gives you a right to ask about personal information we hold, you can email support@2dhub.co. For the mobile scanner, the information we may hold about you is support correspondence you sent. Scan history on the phone is in your possession, on the device.

This policy is written to match the app’s behaviour for Apple’s App Store privacy questions: the scanner is not built to collect contact details, location, purchases, or usage analytics, and it is not built to send barcode contents off the device. Sharing, email you start yourself, and pages you open in a browser are separate from scanning.

Children

The app is a general barcode tool. It is not directed at children, and it does not ask for a child’s name, age, or account. It also does not ask adults for that information.

International handling

Barcode interpretation and scan history stay on the device you use. If you email support, that message goes to support@2dhub.co through your mail service and may be stored by the email service that hosts that address. Scanning does not transfer the barcode to that mailbox.

This website

The pages at 2dhub.co, including this policy and the support page, are separate from the mobile scanner. Visiting them loads the site in your browser. The marketing site requests an icon font from Google Fonts. Its contact page opens your email application. It does not post that form to a 2D Hub server.

Some website addresses are GS1 Digital Link product pages. When that feature is configured, the website asks a product service for information about the number in the address. The mobile scanner does not make that request when you scan.

The marketing application in this project does not set its own analytics cookies. Pages are allowed or blocked for search engines by the site’s indexing setting, which is off unless the public production configuration turns it on.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated text will be published at this address and the effective date above will change. Continuing to use the app after an update does not, by itself, change what is stored on your device. You can still delete local history.
